Guadalajara, MEXICO — It could be just another sad episode of a Mexican soap opera, but in this case the drama is for real: Laura Zuñiga, Reina Hispanoamericana 2008 and Miss International Mexico 2009, was recently taken to jail with seven other people after allegedly being caught in possession of weapons, drugs and over USD 100 thousand in cash.
Laura participated in Nuestra Belleza Mexico 2008 as Nuestra Belleza Sinaloa. She was the 2nd runner-up and the designated Mexican representative for Miss International 2009. Last October she represented Mexico at the main beauty pageant in the American Continent: Reina Hispanoamericana, in Bolivia, and became the first woman from her country to win this title.
In case Laura is proven guilty, she could lose her continental title to Vivian Noronha Cia of Brazil, Reina Hispanoamericana’s 1st runner-up. The same should happen in Mexico, where the 3rd runner-up could take over her Miss International Mexico title, although Nuestra Belleza Organization hasn’t yet made any official statements.
