Sambil Models, the Miss Earth Venezuela franchise holder, elected Jessica Barbosa Schmidt as its country's representative for Miss Earth 2009. The pageant of 19 increasingly intense delegates of Sambil Models was held last night 12 June 2009 in the Centro Sambil Margarita, Pampatar, Margarita Island.
Jessica's elemental court consists of Miss Air - Andreina Gomez, Miss Water-Nathaly Navas and Miss Fire Sara Angelini.
Jessica is 21 years old and stands 1.75mts (5'9"). She is one of the finalists coming from the region of Maracaibo. Barboza was a heavy favorite since the start. Jessica is a lawyer and graduated with honors. Very notable is that she hasn't joined the Miss Venezuela pageant or has undergone training under Osmel Souza.
With its current delegates and this year's impressive winners, Venezuela, once again prove its powerhouse status. Last year, Maria Daniela Torrealba was one of the top favorites and landed on the Top 16.
The pageant's earlier activities beside the show of glamour has social work in its agenda, in which the 19 candidates lend their image to convey a message of protecting the environment, to sensitize people about the care that we must give our natural resources. They have participated in beach clean-up efforts, tree planting in various parts of the island, and walk through the Natural Monuments of Margarita and La Restinga National Park.
Jessica will join the rest of the sophisticated (beautiful and smart) delegates competing for the Miss Earth Finals 2009 to be held on October 25.
